New technology and new thinking powers Giant Hope

Inspired by new technologies, new equipment and new thinking, Chinese packaging printer Giant Hope is showing how it is possible for print companies to actively embrace the challenges of digitalization, intelligentization and standardization.

Established in 2001, Giant Hope specializes in high end packaging print for color boxes, color cards, hangtags and labels. Among its customers are such well-known international brands as Nike, Wenger and EMSA.

In 2014, building on a well-earned reputation for quality, efficiency and professionalism, Giant Hope took the decision to invest in new equipment, eventually opting for a six-color ROLAND 700 LV, the best-selling model for packaging printing, adding another ROLAND 700LV a year later. The company also commissioned Manroland Sheetfed to develop a highly detailed plan for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual maintenance.

Commenting on the importance of a thorough maintenance schedule, Mr. Huang Shaochang, Managing Director of Giant Hope said: “Maintenance starts from the beginning. If a press is being used without proper maintenance, it can be like killing the goose that lays the golden egg.”

Mr. Yu Yongchang, Technical Expert of Giant Hope was keen to develop this point further: “Without proper maintenance, it would most probably take us two to three hours to fix any failure in the press, without necessarily achieving the best result. It is much better that we build maintenance into daily operation and calculate this maintenance time into our production costs. This is how we make production stable and more controllable.”

This point was underlined by the fact that its two original Manroland presses have been in production for more than 20 years and are still running at full capacity. Speaking about Giant Hope’s new system, which has been in use for one year, Mr Yu said: “Our efficiency has greatly improved. The make-ready time from car wash, ink changing, plate changing, make ready, paper loading to normal printing has been reduced from 60 minutes to 30 minutes or sometimes only 10 minutes, and our print quality has become more manageable. The most direct benefit of the new system is the significant increase in our business. Many customers are willing to give us more jobs.”
